Let me think: Well, we can't help reacting. Unless one is unconscious, asleep, brain-dead or really dead. And most of the time we react unconsciously, intellectually, emotionally, physically. By means of facial expressions, body language and posturings, and verbal language using grunts and words. Nothing wrong with all that. Not reacting consciously or unconsciously is reacting consciously or unconsciously. It's just playing cool or cold. If you don't like friends and lovers, you might as well be emotionally unreactive and uninvolved. And you won't be popular. So what's the point?
How to react: Be yourself. Whatever that means. Don't be shy. And don't judge unconsciously, justify or condemn. Don't be too eager. Don't sell yourself. Don't seek approval. Don't show your feelings too early. Etc, etc, etc...

Not reacting consciously or unconsciously is reacting consciously or unconsciously. It's just playing cool or cold.
